Unorthodox Place, Safe Space seeks to destigmatize mental illness. Using her own experience with her anxiety disorder as material for the work, Lim uses her unorthodox space, the toilet, to discuss her journey through anxiety. Comprising two components, the toilet installation recreates the space that Lim goes to when experiencing panic attacks. The audience is invited to use it as a seat to read the toilet paper journal which contains confessional descriptions of her coping mechanism. The work hopes to create empathy and understanding by conveying and creating the same vulnerability she feels in her unorthodox safe space.
